LAKE ELMO, Minn. – The back nine was kind to the Bulldogs at the Royal Club on Monday, as the Mississippi State Bulldogs completed the first round of the ANNIKA Collegiate.
After a slow start in the ANNIKA Collegiate, the Bulldogs began to find a rhythm on the back nine. In the final five holes of the day, Mississippi State was able to erase nine strokes from their team total to finish the opening round, 4-over par and in 12th. Leading the field is South Carolina at 15-under par. As a team, the Bulldogs sank 10 birdies on the final four holes after shooting just two on the front nine.
Surapa Janthamunee was a crucial part of the Bulldogs narrowing the margin. SJ, who leads the way for State with a score of 1-under par, hit three of the teams 10 birdies in the final five holes. She concluded her first round shooting a 71 and placing 19th.
Julia Lopez Ramirez and Chiara Horder each tallied three birdies in the opening round with both individuals birdieing the 17th and 18th holes. Lopez Ramirez finished even on the day, while Horder finished 2-over par. Izzy Pellot and Avery Weed rounded out the lineup for State as they finished 3-over and 4-over, respectively.
