Men’s Golf Signs Transfer Andy Yoon

LOS ANGELES – UCLA men’s golf head coach Armen Kirakossian announced the addition of transfer Andy Yoon from Cal State Dominguez Hills Sunday morning. Yoon will compete as a junior in the upcoming 2023-2024 season.

“We are very excited to welcome Andy to Westwood,” Kirakossian said. “Andy is under the radar having started competitive golf later than most. He played his last two years at Cal State Dominguez Hills where he recorded his first collegiate win. It’s hard to win golf tournaments and Andy has shown rapid improvement. He is coming in with a chip on his shoulder and very hungry to prove himself at the next level.”

Last season, Yoon won his first collegiate medal at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout (-8; 69-67) and finished in a tie for first at the Western Washington Invitational before falling in a playoff showdown (-8; 69-69-70). The sophomore was Cal State Dominguez Hills’ top golfer in nine of 12 events. Earlier this summer, Yoon won two match play rounds and was a quarterfinalist at the 112th California Amateur Championships at Lake Merced Golf Club. He tied for 19th in the stroke play portion of the tournament with UCLA teammate Kyle An.

As a freshman in 2021-2022, Yoon’s top finish was a t-10th mark at RJGA Palm Valley Classic where he helped the Toros set a program record with an 18-hole team score of 285.

The Cypress, Calif. native played began playing competitive golf in his junior and senior seasons at John F. Kennedy High School in Los Angeles. Yoon is a geography major.
