Women’s Golf Begins New Era at Mason Rudolph Championship


LOS ANGELES – The UCLA women’s golf team, led by first-year head coach Alicia Um Holmes, tees off the 2023-24 season this Friday, Sept. 22 at the Mason Rudolph Championship at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
 
The three-day, 54-hole stroke play event will feature 18 teams, including three that competed in the 2023 NCAA Championships.
 
UCLA Lineup: Caroline Canales, Zoe Antoinette Campos, Kate Villegas, Alessia Nobilio and Meghan Royal.
 
The Field: Alabama, Arizona, No. 14 Arizona State, No. 9 Auburn, No. 12 Baylor, UCLA, Charleston, Chattanooga, Denver, Florida Atlantic, Kentucky, No. 4 LSU, Louisville, Middle Tennessee, No. 16 Ole Miss, North Carolina, No. 7 South Carolina and No. 17 Vanderbilt (host).
 
Weather Report: Mostly sunny, temperature highs in the low 80s.
 
Par and Yardage: Par 72, 6,491 yards.
 
UCLA History at the Mason Rudolph Championship
The Bruins make their return to the Mason Rudolph Championship for the first time in 10 years. Last time UCLA competed at the event, newly-hired assistant coach Erynne (Lee) Yoo was a junior on the team and captured her third collegiate medal, leading the Bruins to a 20-shot team victory.
 
UCLA also won team titles at the event in 2011, 2008 and 2007 and have finished runner-up three times. Sydnee Michaels won the individual championship in 2008.
 
2022-23 In Review
UCLA’s season was highlighted by six top 3 finishes, including three team victories at The Match in the Desert, The Beach Invitational and the inaugural Battle for the Bell versus crosstown rival USC. UCLA’s best 54-hole score came at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic where it shot 10-under (286-283-285).
 
Leading the charge in 2022-23 was Campos who earned consensus first-team All-American acclaim and was named an ANNIKA Award Top 10 Finalist. Campos led UCLA with a 71.42 scoring average which ranked 20th in the NCAA and sixth all-time for a single season in school history. She won the first two events of her collegiate career in back-to-back tournaments at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic and Silverado Showdown. Campos also led UCLA with eight top 10s and finished outside the top 20 only once in 10 stroke play…
