Hawkeyes to Play in Yale Invitational – University of Iowa Athletics

THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa women’s golf team travels to New Haven, Connecticut, for the Yale Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will be held from Sept. 30- Oct. 1 at Yale Golf Course (par 70, 6,076-yards). The Hawkeyes will begin the tournament Sunday with an 8:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun start.

THE LINEUP
Iowa’s third tournament of the season lineup includes: sophomore Kaitlyn Hanna, sophomore Shannyn Vogler, freshman Ximena Benites, sophomore Madison Dabagia and junior Paula Miranda.

THE FIELD
The 13-team field includes: Arkansas-Little Rock, Boston University, Columbia, Dartmouth, DePauw, Fairfield, Florida Gulf Coast, Harvard, Iowa, Quinnipiac, Pennsylvania, Williams College and Yale.

THE COURSE
The Yale Course was recognized as No. 1 rated, best golf course in Connecticut in 2020 by GOLF Magazine. This 6,076-yard, par-70 course has large greens with deep bunkers and wide, rolling fairways that are the core of Yale’s strategic and penal character. The course has been the site of numerous NCAA Regional Golf Championships as well as being the home of the Nike Connecticut Open.

A REVIEW: RED RAIDER INVITE
The Hawkeyes finished second at the Red Raider Invitational last week, firing a 54-hole total of 876 (291-290-295). The score is tied for the fifth-best 54-hole total in program history. Sophomore Kaitlyn Hanna was Iowa’s top finisher, tying for 12th place with a three-over par 219 (73-72-74) for the best finish of her career. All five Iowa women’s golfers finished in the top 25.

HANNA’S STRONG START
Sophomore Kaitlyn Hanna has posted career low scores in each of Iowa’s opening two tournaments of the fall. She tied for 12th at the Red Raider Invitational, which is her first top-20 showing of her career. Over six rounds, Hanna has a team-best 73.50 scoring average.

OF NOTE…
• Sophomore Madison Dabagia matched a career-low round during the second round of the Red Raider Invitational, firing a two-under par 70. It is the low round by a Hawkeye this fall.
• Dabagia and sophomore Kaitlyn Hanna each have two rounds at or below par to lead the team.
• Sophomore Shannyn Vogler notched her third career top 20 finish, tying for 18th at the Red Raider Invitational, while freshman Ximena Benites also tied for 18th for her highest career finish.
