Men’s Golf Signs Trevor Garus and Baylor Larrabee

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men’s golf program has received signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) from Trevor Garus and Baylor Larrabee, as announced on Wednesday by head coach Armen Kirakossian.

Garus was named the 2023 Idaho Player of the Year after winning the Idaho Golf Association (IGA) Men’s State Amateur Championship in July by one stroke at 4-under with round scores of 73-70-69. Garus’ victory came in clutch fashion, too, as he won on his final hole after teeing off the 18th one shot back of the lead. Three weeks prior, Garus won three of his four matches in the 2023 IGA Match Play Championship with margins of 5&4 and 8&7 in his first two matches before falling in the championship round.

From Boise, Idaho, Garus is a senior at Capital High School where has three-peated 5A District III titles, becoming the first Idahoan golfer to do so in 21 years. Most recently in September 2023, Garus shot 3-under on his final six holes at Purple Sage Golf Course to hoist his third consecutive district championship trophy. He recorded third-place finishes at the 5A state championship tournaments his junior and senior years in 2022 and 2023.

“I still remember the moment Trevor Garus got on our radar as a recruit,” Kirakossian said. “He was playing the IMG Junior World Championships at Torrey Pines. On the 6th hole, Trevor hit a long iron close to the pin en route to a first-round lead. Our assistant coach at the time, Patrick Murphy, told me it might have been the best sounding shot he’s ever heard. Trevor has a drive to improve and become the best player he can. He showed he is ready to play at the next level this summer qualifying for the 2023 U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills and advancing into match play. I am very thrilled to be announcing Trevor as a Bruin today.”

Garus qualified for the 123rd U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills Country Club where he tied for 50th in stroke play to advance into the round of 64.

Representing Idaho at the 2023 Junior America’s Cup at Red Hawk Golf Club in August, Garus tied for second at 10-under with round scores of 71-65-67.

Garus was tabbed 59th in the latest ROLEX American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Rankings. He competed in seven events in 2023 and posted three top 5 finishes, including a t-3rd spot at the Imperial Junior Classic at Big Sky with round scores of…
