Brooks Adds Martina Yu to 2024-25 Roster


DURHAM – Duke women’s golf head coach Dan Brooks announced on Friday the addition of Martina Yu to the 2024-25 roster.  Yu will be joined by fellow freshmen Anna Canado Espinal and Carla De Troia in the class.   

A native of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada, Yu attends Pinetree Secondary School where she has been a four-time captain on her high school golf team.  

“We look forward to welcoming Martina onto our team,” said Brooks.  “She’s a talented player with loads of determination, and I know she will thrive in our competitive environment. It is clear that Martina welcomes the challenges that Duke offers, on and off the golf course.”

Yu is a two-time winner on the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) as she won the 2021 MJT at Pagoda Ridge Golf Club and the 2019 MJT Ford Series.  In 2023, she totaled five top-10 finishes, including a third-place ledger at the NextGen Western Championship and a fourth-place mark with rounds of 74, 72 and 68 at the Imperial Junior Classic at Big Sky.  Yu advanced to the round of 32 of match play at the 2023 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, after placing tied for 17th in stroke play qualifying.  

In five tournaments in 2022, Yu posted a pair of runner-up placements at the Jim Click Automotive/HSL Properties (66-68-72=206) and the CORE Pacific Advisors Open honoring Doug Morehead (71-71-70=212).  Yu competed in eight events in 2021 and did not finish worse than a tied for 12th ledger.  She tied for first at the Maple Junior Tour (MJT) at Pagoda Ridge Golf Club with scores of 72 and 68, while turning in rounds of 71, 73, 71 at the GC – NextGen Fall Series West Championship for a runner-up finish.   

Yu was selected to participate in the R&A Junior Open representing Team Canada in 2022 and represented Team British Columbia also in 2022 at the North Pacific Team Matches. She earned spots on Team Canada in 2021 and 2022, while playing for Team British Columbia in 2020.
