Cats Open 2024 at Copper Cup

MARICOPA, Ariz. – No. 17 Arizona Men’s Golf will return to the course for the first time in 2024 in The Copper Cup, presented by the Goldberg Family Foundation. The four-team event will see the Wildcats alongside Arizona State, USC and UCLA in a mixed format of both singles and alternate shot foursomes. The 2024 edition of the event marks the fourth time Arizona has participated in the event, which was originally launched in 2021.

“The Copper Cup, presented by the Goldberg Family Foundation, is going to be an ideal competition to start the new year off,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “We had a great fall as a team that really showcased our development and growth. Now it’s time to pick up where we left off and continue playing some great golf. These two days in Maricopa will be a great first step for 2024 for our program.”

Arizona’s lineup of players for the Copper Cup will include eight of its nine golfers on its roster. Star junior Tiger Christensen will sit the event out due to illness. Sophomore Filip Jakubcik will lead the way for the Wildcats after posting a pair of top-ten finishes in the fall. Fellow sophomore Zach Pollo, who finished tied for third at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup, will also be featured in the Arizona lineup.

The two-day event at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club will begin on Sunday morning with Arizona and Arizona State squaring off in a Ryder Cup format. Winning teams from each of Sunday’s sessions will advance to the championship match on Monday morning.

The event is open to the public with free admission for fans.
