Men's Golf Wins Copper Cup Title After Match Play Victory Over UCLA

MARICOPA, Ariz. – No. 19 Arizona Men’s Golf won the 2024 edition of the Copper Cup, presented by the Goldberg Family Foundation, on Monday with a 7 to 5 victory over UCLA. The Wildcats and Bruins split the first six matches of the afternoon match play event as Arizona picked up points from Zach Pollo, Johnny Walker and Jackson Norwich. With wins by Sam Sommerhauser and Filip Jakubcik in the final two matches, the Cats clinched their first Copper Cup title in their third season of participation.

Monday’s championship match play victory came one day after the Wildcats defeated No. 4 Arizona State by a point in the opening day of action. The trio of Jakubcik, Pollo and Walker powered the Wildcats to each of their afternoon victories in match play as the only three golfers on the roster to win their individual match versus Arizona State and UCLA.

Monday’s title won at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club came in Arizona’s first competition of 2024. The Wildcats will return to action in two weeks in the first of their two home events, the Arizona N.I.T. at Omni Tucson National Golf Club. The Arizona N.I.T. has traditionally been held during the third week of March but was moved up the calendar this season.
