Brinker & McMyler Accept Invitations for Augusta National Women’s Amateur

DURHAM – The invitations for the 2024 Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA) have been distributed with Phoebe Brinker and Emma McMyler of the Duke women’s golf program recently accepting invites to compete April 3-6 in Augusta, Ga.

Beginning the week prior to the Masters Tournament, an international field of 72 women amateurs will compete over 54 holes of stroke play. A cut will take place after 36 holes, advancing the leading 30 players to the final round at Augusta National Golf Club. In the event of a tie after 54 holes, the winner will be decided by sudden-death playoff.

The first 36 holes will be contested over two days on the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., April 3-4, 2024. The entire field will then play Augusta National for an official practice round Friday, April 5. The final round will take place at Augusta National on Saturday, April 6 and will feature the top 30 competitors who made the cut.

In 2019, Duke featured five golfers in the inaugural ANWA competition – Erica Shepherd, Virginia Elena Carta, Gina Kim, Jaravee Boonchant and Ana Belac.  The Blue Devils then had three golfers in the 2021 ANWA competition with Boonchant, Kim and Shepherd followed by Brinker and Shepherd in 2022 and Brinker, Shepherd and Anne Chen in 2023.

Over the five years of action, Duke will now have 15 spots taken up by Blue Devils that will compete with the other top amateur golfers in the country.

Seeing action in the ANWA for a third time, Brinker looks to make her first cut in the event, after seeing action in 2022 and 2023.  McMyler will make her debut in the event.  In the latest Women’s Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), Brinker is No. 59 and McMyler is No. 80.

For a second consecutive year, Golf Channel will provide live coverage of the first and second rounds of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur from Champions Retreat Golf Club.  NBC Sports will broadcast the event’s final round from Augusta National Golf Club.
