Spartans in 10th Place After Two Rounds at UCF Challenge


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s women’s golf team fired a 1-under par 287 in the second round and is in 10th place among 18 teams after the second round of play at the UCF Challenge, being played at Eagle Creek Country Club in Orlando, Fla.

The tournament, being played on Eagle Creek’s par-72, 6,367-yard course, will conclude with the third and final round on Monday.

The Spartans stand at 4-over par 580 (293-287) through two rounds of play.

Second Round Results

North Carolina leads the field at 17-under par 559 (279-280), with Miami second at 9-under par 567. The College of Charleston is in third place (5-under par 571), with Kansas fourth (4-under par 572) and Northwestern and host UCF tied for fifth place (2-under par 574).

Junior Katie Lu posted her second-straight round of 2-under par 70 and is tied for eighth place at 4-under par 140 (70-70).

Junior Brooke Biermann tied for the team low round of the day with a 2-under par. She is tied for 24th place at even-par 144 (74-70).

Sophomore Paula Balanzategui is tied for 38th place at 2-over par 146 (73-73). She posted her second-straight round of 1-over par 73, respectively.

Junior Shannon Kennedy is tied for 66th place at 7-over par 151 (76-75) and senior Leila Raines is tied for 71st place at 8-over 152 (78-74).

Playing as an individual, freshman Ana Sofia Murcia is tied for 24th place at even-par 144 (71-73).

Michigan State will tee off in Monday’s final round starting at 8:30 a.m. on the 16th hole, playing alongside Kent State and Iowa State.
