USC Men's Golf Travels to Hawai'i for John A. Burns Invitational

Men’s Golf | February 14, 2024

LOS ANGELES–The USC men’s golf team travels to the Hawaiian Islands for its second stroke play tournament of the spring, the John A. Burns Invitational. The three-day tournament, hosted by the University of Hawaii, begins on Thursday (Feb. 15) in Lihu’e, Kaua’i, Hawai’i and will be played at the Ocean Course Hokuala. The tournament format will consist of three days of stroke play, a round being played each day, with the final round set for Saturday (Feb 17).

This week, the Trojans face a large and talented field consisting of No. 17 Arizona, Arkansas Little Rock, BYU, No. 19 California, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Georgia Southern, Hawai’i, Long Beach State, New Mexico, Saint Mary’s, San Diego State, San Francisco, Texas A&M, UC Santa Barbara, UNLV, Utah, UTEP and Washington State.  The Trojans, who competed in this tournament last year, will look to improve on their 9th place finish last season.

Designed by Jack Nicklaus, The Ocean Coursae at Hokuala was originally created in 1998 with renovations occurring in 2011 and 2016, which moved the course from a 27-hole to an 18-hole facility. Rated by Golf Digest as the 9th best course in Hawai’i, the Ocean Course at Hokuala offers the longest stretch of ocean holes in the state, with the front 9 being played in the lush jungle and the back 9 on oceanside cliffs. Known for its 14th and 16th holes, the course is scattered with inland lagoons placed by Nicklaus himself and can face serious winds because of its location along the ocean. The iconic loop will play in a 7,156-yard, par-72 set up this weekend with Bermuda fairways and TifEagle greens.
