Jakubcik Posts Another Top-20 Finish to Lead Arizona at Cabo Collegiate

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – No. 9 Arizona Men’s Golf capped their tournament run at the Cabo Collegiate, posting a 17-over par team score to finish in 11th place. Sophomore Filip Jakubcik, one of the Wildcats’ low scorers in round one, carded the team’s best round of the tournament on Tuesday with bogey-free performance of 2-under. Twin Dolphin Golf Club challenged all 15 teams as only three programs broke par after 54 holes of action.

“We didn’t have the complete performance through three days that we were looking for, but our guys fought until the very last hole,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “We found our scoring groove in various stretches on each day, and those are some of the positives that we will take away from this tournament. We have a resilient and hungry group, and I know they are eager to get back to practice to begin preparations for our next tournament. We will be back at home for the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate in two weeks at Tucson Country Club, which will be a great opportunity to get back at it with some home cooking.”

Jakubcik lead Arizona in scoring for the tournament with a 54-hole score of 1-under par that put him in a tie for 17th place. It also marked the fifth time in seven tournaments this season that he has posted a top-20 finish. The sophomore was dominant on the course’s shortest holes, finishing tied for second in the field in par-3 scoring.

The Wildcats also finished high in the par-5 scoring average, ending the tournament in third place at 11-under par. Zach Pollo, who carded 1 of the tournament’s 12 total eagles, led all players in par-5 scoring at 8-under.

Arizona will return to action for their second annual home event in two weeks. The Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate, hosted by Tucson Country Club, is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 18. The course is also home to Arizona’s golf programs’ new William M. “Bill” Clements Golf Center, which will officially open later this spring.
