Korda’s seven-week break from the tour included three and a half weeks without touching a club. She spent two and a half of those weeks in Prague, Czech Republic, with family. Korda said she couldn’t remember a time that she put her clubs away for that long and wasn’t injured and in a good headspace.
The time away left her refreshed and also yearning for competition.
Coming back, Korda said she was particularly rusty with her short game, with a number of chips coming up short in the opening round. She was grateful to have her instructor, Jamie Mulligan, by her side all week.
Coming off those two bogeys to end regulation, Korda vented to Mulligan before he asked if she was ready to be positive.
“Took a little bit and then I was ready,” she said.
“And then we talked a little bit, laughed a little bit. He’s really good at just cracking jokes, which sometimes I just give him a pity laugh.
“It’s usually pretty good.”
