Round 2 Surge Lifts No. 21 Illini Into Share of Lead at Duck Invitational


EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 21-ranked Fighting Illini men’s golf team overcame a slow start in Round 1 of the Duck Invitational to finish Monday’s second round in a tie atop the team leaderboard with host Oregon at Eugene Country Club.

The Illini opened the day with a team score of 10-over 294 and sat in a tie for 10th after 18 holes. But the Orange and Blue responded in a big way, improving by 16 shots during the afternoon round to post the day’s lowest score – a 6-under 278 – and vault nine spots up the leaderboard into a share of first with 18 holes remaining on Tuesday.
