ARDMORE, Okla. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team had an impressive finish to the final regular season event of the year as the team placed second in the Bruzzy, hosted by North Texas at Dornick Hills Country Club.
Lauren Beaudreau was crowned the event champion as she took home first place with a score of 207 (-3), capping off the regular season with a tournament win after placing second at the Tulane Classic on March 12.
“Huge congrats to Lauren for earning the win this week” said head coach Caroline Powers Ellis. “She has been knocking on the door all year, so it was only a matter of time. She was firing on all cylinders this week and really trusted herself on the greens. I’m so proud of her and impressed by her steadiness in a really strong field.”
Shooting an even 70 in rounds one and three, Beaudreau’s best round came in round two as she shot three under (67). The graduate student recorded eight birdies.
Chloe Schiavone finished right behind her teammate as she secured a second place finish, shooting a 211 (+1). Despite shooting a 73 in round one (+3), Schiavone had a strong round two where she shot an even 70 and had an even better round three. She scored a 68 (-2) in the third round and finished with one eagle and nine birdies on the tournament.
“Our team showed a lot of character this week,”said Powers Ellis.”It was a demanding course amongst a great field and they had to stay mentally sharp every single shot. We started off the first day a little shaky, but found our footing and remembered the game plan. Day two we started so strong right out of the gates. This tournament was a huge step forward for Notre Dame women’s golf and really shows what this team is capable of.”
The Irish will compete next in the ACC Championships April 18-21 at the Porters Neck Country Club in Wilmington, NC.
