Cougs Finish Bobcat Desert Classic in 11th

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (April 10, 2024) – Washington State women’s golf wrapped up at the Bobcat Desert Classic as the team completed its final round of play Wednesday in 11th place among the 17-team field, at 18-over, 882 at the par-72 Golf Club of Estrella.

Junior Madelyn Gamble ended the tournament in a tie for 11th place in the 98-player field with a three-round score of an even-par, 216. In round three, Gamble parred 12 of her first 13 holes before a birdie on hole six dropped her back down to even through 14 holes. She added a pair of bogeys the rest of the way to tally a 2-over, 74 on the day.

Freshman Alice Johansson wrapped up her showing tied for 38th at 7-over, 223. Johansson scattered four bogeys over her first 12 holes, but finished strong with five pars and a birdie on hole 10 to end the round at 3-over, 75.

Junior Emily Cadwell tied for 45th, along with fellow Cougs, junior Sarah Skovgaard-Bils and sophomore Hannah Harrison who all came in at 8-over, 224.

Caldwell came out of the gates hot, recording birdies on her first two holes to quickly move 2-under. She tallied five bogeys the rest of the way, though, and ended round three at 3-over, 75.

Skovgaard-Bils rattled off 10 straight parred holes to start the day. Two birdies and three bogeys over her next five holes put her at 1-under before rounding out the day with three more parred holes to finish at 1-over, 73.

Harrison birdied her fourth hole of the day, and then bogeys on holes 18 and one before another birdie on four put her even. She parred the next six holes to stay even until a bogey on her second-to-last hole led to a 1-over, 73 finish to round three.

The Cougars now look ahead to hosting the 2024 Pac-12 Championship on April 21-23 at Palouse Ridge Golf Course in Pullman, Wash.
