BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Gordon Sargent’s performance at the 2024 Mason Rudolph Championship earned the junior SEC Co-Golfer of the Week honors.

Sargent captured his first individual title of the 2023-24 season at the Mason Rudolph Championship over this past weekend. The junior carded 11-under 202 over three rounds to become the second golfer to win back-to-back Mason Rudolph titles. The junior joins Sam Horsfield of Florida as the only players that have won the Mason Rudolph Championship on more than one occasion, as Horsfield claimed medalist honors during the 2016 and 2017 tournaments.

Sargent posted scores of 64-69-69 to claim his first victory of the season. The All-American excelled on par 5s, as he led the tournament in par-5 scoring at 11-under, while he also paced the field with 17 birdies. It is Sargent’s sixth career win at the college level, which extends his Vanderbilt record for most career individual victories.

The Birmingham, Alabama, native finished Round 1 of the 2024 Mason Rudolph Championship at 7-under 64. The 2022 NCAA individual champion caught fire to close out the back nine during the opening round, as the junior collected a birdie on four of his final six holes, which included back-to-back birdies on Holes 17 and 18. Sargent’s score of 7-under 64 in the first round of the Mason Rudolph matches his best 18-hole total of the season.

It is Sargent’s first SEC Golfer of the Week award this season, as he shares the honor with Missouri’s Jack Lundin. It is the fifth time this season that a Vanderbilt golfer has earned a weekly accolade from the SEC. Senior Cole Sherwood (Oct. 11), junior Jackson Van Paris (Nov. 1), and graduate student Matthew Riedel (March 27) have each been named SEC Golfer of the Week, while John Broderick picked up an SEC Freshman of the Week nod on Feb. 28.

The Commodores are preparing for the 2024 SEC Men’s Golf Championship, which takes place April 24-28 at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Georgia. Check back with VUCommodores.com for a full tournament preview.
