Women's Golf Earns Another Top-Three Finish at Silverado Showdown

NAPA, Calif. – No. 14 Arizona Women’s Golf capped their week at the Chevron Silverado Showdown with a 5-over par final round to finish in third place. It was one of the lowest rounds of the day that was punctuated by sophomore Nena Wongthanavimok who shot 3-under on the day, which tied for the second-lowest round of the day out of 88 players. Wongthanavimok would finish the event in a tie for eighth at even par, one stroke behind her teammate Carolina Melgrati who finished in a tie for fifth to lead the Wildcats.

“I am proud of our team’s consistent effort throughout our week here with a well-earned finish in the top three,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “To have three players shoot par or lower in today’s final round speaks to the determination and drive of our team. They strive to get better each round, and they did just that on a very challenging course. Hats off to Nena for her strong final round as well as Carolina for earning her fourth straight top-10 finish. This was a good week to prepare us for the Pac-12 Championships at Washington State, and I am excited to see us compete there in two weeks.”

Melgrati’s fourth consecutive finish in the top 10 is the longest such streak of her career. She becomes the first Wildcat golfer to achieve the feat since Vivian Hou carded five straight top-10 finishes during her National Freshman of the Year campaign of 2019-20.

Arizona also added to its long list of strong team performances this season with its third-place finish. The program has now placed in the top four in five of its last six stroke-play tournaments.

The Wildcats are now off to the Pac-12 Championships at Palouse Ridge Golf Course in Pullman, Washington that is scheduled to begin on Sunday, April 14. Arizona has a strong track record at the conference championships, finishing fifth or better in every Pac-12 postseason event since 1994. That streak also includes seven team championships for the Wildcats and five runner-up finishes.
