Illini Set for Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational


CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini women’s golf is set to compete in the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational at The Ohio State University Scarlet Course, hosted by Ohio State. The two-day tournament will be played on Saturday, April 13, through Sunday, April 14.

THE SETTING

The Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational is held at The Ohio State University Golf Club and played on the Scarlet Course. The course was recently renovated by golf legend Jack Nicklaus in 2006. The course will be set up for a par 72 and will play 6,319 yards long.  

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

There will be 12 teams competing in the 54-hole tournament. There will be 36 holes of continuous play on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday. Both days will feature a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT.

THE FIELD

Along with the Illini, the 12-team field for the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational will include Indiana, Iowa, Kent State, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Nebraska, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers and Wisconsin.

ILLINI AT THERESE HESSION BUCKEYE INVITATIONAL

This will be the 27th time overall that the Illini will compete in the Therese Hession Spring Invitational. In last year’s event, the Orange and Blue finished ninth out of 14 teams carding a 54-hole total of 891 (+27). 

Illinois has won this event once, coming out on top in the 2018 edition of the tournament. Individually, Grace Park finished tied for first in 2018 and head coach Renee Slone, formerly Renee Heiken, won the event two years in a row in 1992 and 1993.

Live scoring for the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational will be available on Golfstat.com. A recap and results will be posted on FightingIllini.com following each day of play.

UP NEXT

The Fighting Illini will attempt to defend their Big Ten title as they head to Havre de Grace, Md., for the Big Ten Championships, played at Bull Rock Golf Course. The tournament will be held on Friday, April 19, through Sunday, April 21.
