The Thunderbird Up Next for Men’s Golf


PULLMAN, Wash. (April 11, 2024) – The Washington State men’s golf team is back in action this weekend to play in The Thunderbird hosted by Arizona State in Phoenix, Ariz. from Friday, April 12 to Saturday, April 13.

The Course and Tournament Format

The Thunderbird will be held at Papago Golf Club. The course will play as a par-71 at 7,551 yards. Teams will play 36 holes on Friday and 18 on Saturday with rolling tee times beginning at 6:45 a.m.

In addition to Washington State and host Arizona State, the rest of the 17-team field includes Washington, Arizona, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Oklahoma State, UCLA, SMU, Baylor, Utah, Houston, Oregon State, Colorado, San Francisco and USC.

Last Time Out

WSU placed 21st at The Goodwin on Mar. 30, finishing at 27-over, 867 on the par-70, 7,193-yard TPC Harding Park. After sitting in 24th place two rounds in, the Cougs finished with a 2-over, 282 performance in the final round behind under-par performances from Sam Renner and Preston Bebich. Renner’s 2-under final round put him at 3-over, 213 for the tournament, while Bebich was at 1-under in the third round for a three-round score of 8-over, 218.

WSU Golf

Head Coach Dustin White is in his eighth season leading his alma mater. The 2023-24 Cougar squad, which returns nine members from last season, looks to build of the 2023 campaign which saw WSU post its best showing at a Pac-12 Championship, finishing in a tie for third. The Cougars also made a return to postseason play competing in the 2023 National Golf Invitational Championship, only the second time in program history that WSU has played in a postseason tournament, and first since the 2002 NCAA West Regional. The Cougars finished in a tie for sixth at the NGI.
