Spartans in Second Through 36 Holes of Buckeye Invite


COLUMBUS, Ohio – Spartan Women’s Golf sits in second place in a field of 12 through the first two rounds of the Therese Hession Buckeye Invite Saturday while four Spartans possess top-ten status individual standings.
 
After the first round MSU was tied with the hosts Ohio State after shooting a collective 291 over 18 holes, three over par. In the second round of the day MSU matched that score to finish day one of the event at six to par, 10 shots ahead of third place, while the Buckeyes jumped to an eight shot lead in front.
 
Individually, junior Katie Lu leads the Spartan scoring contingent in fourth place behind a pair of 72’s, par for the Scarlet Course. Fellow junior Brooke Biermann (72, 74) and sophomore Paula Balanzategui (73, 73) are tied for sixth heading into the final day at two over. Senior Leila Raines is tied for ninth after rebounding from a first-round 75 with an even finish in the second.
 
The Spartans will conclude play at the Buckeye Invite with a third and final round on the 6,319 yard course on Sunday.
