Blue Devils Finish Sixth at ACC Championship


CHARLOTTE – The Duke men’s golf team concluded play at the ACC Championship on Sunday, finishing in sixth place at 2-over, 854, overall. Three individual Blue Devils earned a top-20 finish, led by William Love, who finished in a tie for 12th place at even-par, 213.

HOW IT HAPPENED: ROUND THREE

  • With rain and wind a constant all day, all 12 teams finished over-par on Sunday.
  • As a team, Duke shot an 8-over, 292, in the third round.
  • Daniel Choi turned in the low round of the day for Duke, signing for a 1-over, 72. Overall, Choi finished in a tie for 30th at 5-over, 218. The sophomore’s round started quickly as he rolled in a birdie on the second hole, before moving back to even-par after a bogey on No. 4. Choi made the turn at 2-over, after a birdie on No. 5 and bogeys on holes No. 6, 8 and 9. He played the back-nine at 1-under, rolling in back-to-back birdies on the par-3 11th and par-5 12th, with a lone bogey on No. 16 being the only blemish on his closing holes.
  • Luke Sample shot a 2-over, 73, on Sunday and tied for 18th overall at 1-over, 214. Sample birdied the first hole to start his day, but worked through adversity during his front-nine, going out in 3-over, 39. The junior played the back-nine at 1-under, starting with a 20-footer for birdie on No. 10. Sample dropped two shots across his final six holes but offset those bogeys by rolling in birdies on No. 15 and No. 18.
  • Ian Siebers also signed for a 2-over, 73, and after substituting into the lineup for the second round, played his two rounds at 1-over, 143. Siebers made two birdies in his first five holes, on holes No. 2 and 5, and eventually moved to the back-nine at 1-over. Back-to-back bogeys at the turn were quickly erased with three birdies over his next four holes, moving the senior back to even-par. Siebers played his final three holes at 2-over to close out his round.
  • William Love shot a 3-over, 74, in the final round and tied for 12th overall at even-par, 213. Love sank a total of four birdies during his round, all on the back-nine, while working through six separate over-par holes.
  • Ethan Evans rounded out Duke’s lineup, shooting a 4-over, 75. Evans was the third Blue Devil to secure a top-20 showing on the leaderboard, finishing at 1-over, 214, overall and tied for 18th. Evans made two birdies on the day, highlighted by a…
