#7 Vols In Fifth Following Round One at SEC Championships


ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The seventh-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team is in fifth place following round one at the SEC Championships.

The Vols shot 3-under as a team on Wednesday and enter Thursday’s round one shot back of Texas A&M.

The trio of Bryce Lewis, Jake Hall and Bruce Murphy provided UT with opening-round 1-under 69s in and sit tied for 18th ahead of day two.

Lewis was 1-over through 14 holes in round one and then proceeded to finish his final four holes at 2-under to secure the under-par round.

Hall’s round entailed a bogey-free opening nine holes.

After starting 2-over in his first four holes, Murphy proceeded to make four birdies en route to his 69.

Evan Woosley-Reed gave the Vols their final counting round on day one after shooting even-par overall, including a 1-under 34 following the turn. The Shelbyville, Tennessee, native enters the second round tied for 27th.

Lance Simpson shot a 5-over 75 in the first round and enters the second round of stroke play tied for 59th.
