Wildcats Card Best Round of Week on Day Two of Pac-12 Championships

CAREFREE, Ariz. – Behind Zach Pollo’s even par round, No. 8 Arizona Men’s Golf ended a windy third round of the Pac-12 Championships in eighth place at 65-over par. Pollo was one of nine players in the 72-golfer field to shoot par or lower on Saturday. The Wildcats’ 15-over team score in the third round was its lowest of the week by seven strokes.

“Hats off to Zach for shooting our best round of the week today in more difficult wind,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “We played our best golf of the week this afternoon, which is something we can build off for tomorrow’s round. Our plan is to go back out there and post another good round and see where we end up.”

Pollo’s team low on Saturday was three strokes better than any of the round carded on Friday’s 36 holes of action. Sophomore Yannick Malik finished one stroke behind Pollo on Saturday and remains Arizona’s top Wildcat on the leaderboard in a tie for 13th at 7-over par. Pollo sits three strokes behind Malik in 23rd place at 10-over par.

Arizona will enter the final round of the Pac-12 Championships within striking distance of a pair of teams. UCLA sits in seventh place with a four-stroke advantage and six shots behind sixth-place Oregon State.

The Wildcats will tee off at 7:30 a.m. (MST) on Sunday from Desert Forest Golf Club alongside UCLA and Colorado.
