Utah Men’s Golf Earns NCAA Austin Regional Spot

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Utah men’s golf team has earned the No. 9 seed at the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Austin Regional, which will be hosted by the University of Texas. The regional tournament will take place from May 13 – 15 at The University of Texas Golf Club in Austin.

“I’m really excited for this team,” said coach Garrett Clegg. We have had a fantastic spring season and for it to culminate in a berth to the NCAA regional championships is outstanding! None of our players have competed at or been on site at the University Club in Austin. It will take a great week of golf for us to advance and we will do all we can to get ready to go!”

This represents the program’s third trip to regionals in the last four seasons and fifth time overall. The Utes will be attempting to repeat the feat they accomplished in 2022, when they took fifth at the Norman Regional to earn a spot at the NCAA Championships.

The teams joining Utah in Austin will be top-seeded Tennessee, as well as Arkansas, Texas, Georgia, Wake Forest, Notre Dame, BYU, San Jose State, Grand Canyon University, Arkansas State and Kansas City.

Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted to determine the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals (not on those qualifying teams) who will compete in the finals. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals (not on those teams) will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals (not on those teams). The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the finals.

All 30 teams and six individuals will complete 54 holes of stroke play. Following 54 holes of competition, the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team will advance for one additional day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match-play competition and the 72-hole stroke-play individual champion. The top eight teams after 72 holes of play will be placed into a bracket thereafter.

The 2024 national championships will be hosted by the University of Texas at Austin and held at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
