Virginia Men's Golf | UVA Advances to NCAA Championships After Finishing Second at Baton Rouge Regional

BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 12 Virginia men’s golf team turned in its best NCAA Regional finish in program history to advance to the 2024 NCAA Championships. The Cavaliers shot 7-under 281 during the final round of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional to finish second at 13-under 851. Top-seed Auburn won the event at 21-under 843. The Tigers posted a final-round score of 20-under par.

The top five finishers from six NCAA regional sites advance to the NCAA Championships set for May 24-29 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. Also advancing to the NCAA Championships from the Baton Rouge site were Texas Tech (856), Ohio State (864) and LSU (868).

Bryan Lee led Virginia with an eighth-place finish at 4-under 212. He, along with teammates Ben James and George Duangmanee, each shot 2-under 70 during Wednesday’s Round. James finished ninth at 3-under 213. Josh Duangmanee was 12th at 1-under 215. He posted a final-round score of 71. Deven Patel dropped back to 15th place and finished at 1-over 217 including a third-round score of 76. George Duangmanee was 23rd at 219.

UVA will be making its 19th appearance at the NCAA Championships. Virginia has one NCAA individual champion. Dixon Brooke claimed the title in 1940.

Last year the Cavaliers reached the match play portion of the tournament, losing to eventual national champion Florida by a 3-2 margin. Virginia finished seventh in stroke play, the best showing by a Cavalier squad at the NCAA Championships. UVA was led in stroke play by 2023 Phil Mickelson Award winner Ben James. He was sixth overall at 12-under 286 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
