Zheng Qualifies for Korn Ferry Tour Event

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Duke men’s golfer Jimmy Zheng has qualified for the Korn Ferry Tour Visit Knoxville Open and will begin play on Thursday morning at 8:50 a.m. Zheng shot a 5-under, 65, in the event’s open qualifying at Willow Creek on Monday, May 20 and earned one of eight exemptions into the field through the open qualifying process.

The recently graduated senior, who has since turned professional, tied for second place in the open qualifier. With his 5-under round, he finished just one shot shy of the leader. Zheng started his day with a birdie on No. 1 and went on to make the turn at 2-under following another birdie on the par-3 sixth and an eagle on the par-5 ninth while dropping shots on holes No. 4 and 7. He played the back-nine bogey-free, while rolling in three more birdies, to cap off the 5-under round. Zheng’s six total under-par holes tied for third-most in the field and his 1-under scoring on par-3’s tied for the best by any individual in the field.

Zheng will be joined in the event by two former Blue Devils, Julian Suri and Ryan Blaum. Suri also went through the open qualifying process, firing a 7-under, 65, at Three Ridges GC and tied for second place in his qualifying event. Blaum earned Korn Ferry Tour status following his tie for 14th at Q School in December 2023 ahead of the 2024 season and has made 10 Korn Ferry starts so far in 2024, with two top-25 efforts – highlighted by a tie for 10th at 13-under, 267, at the 117 Visa Argentina Open in early March.

Blaum, in the second group of the day off of No. 1, begins his tournament at 7 a.m., while Zheng and Suri – playing in the same group – tee off of No. 1 at 8:50 a.m.
