Just two strokes off the leader, graduate student Morgan Ketchum carded the Deacs’ low round of the first day, highlighted by a clean back nine and four birdies.
At four over par, junior Macy Pate wrapped her first round inside the top 50. Pate carded three total birdies, including on the 15th hole, a 536-yd par five, and was just one of eight in the competition to do so.
Senior Anne-Sterre den Dunnen saw improvement after a difficult first nine holes and recorded a clean sheet with two birdies after the turn to finish five over.
Sophomore Chloe Kovelesky and graduate student Casey Weidenfeld each shot eight over and are T68 headed into Saturday. Kovelesky was just one of four other athletes to card a birdie on the 18th hole par-four.
Sights Set on Round Two
Wake Forest will look for an opportunity to climb the leaderboard tomorrow during the second round of three, which begins at 9:25 a.m. ET. The top-ranked Demon Deacons will be paired with Kentucky and UNCW.
