Cards Finish 11th in the First Event of the Spring Season


LOUISVILLE, Ky. –  The University of Louisville men’s golf team shot a 6-under-par 282 to finish in 11th place at the Puerto Rico Classic Wednesday at the Grand Reserve Golf Course.
 
The Cardinals carded an 844 (285-277-282) to post a score of 20-under-par.
 
Virginia ran away with the tournament title at 55-under-par, while LSU was second at 37-under-par and Tennessee was in third place at 36-under-par. Oklahoma and Tennessee were fourth and fifth, respectively.
 
Brady Smith was the UofL top finisher for the tournament as he shot a 5-under-par 211. The sophomore carded 71-72-68=211 to place in 33rd place.  Smith would birdie three of his last six holes on the day to tie with Easton Johnson for 33rd. Johnson also shot a 5-under-par 211 after posting a final round score of 72.
 
Warren Thomis tied for 40th place after he shot a final round score of 69 to finish the tournament at 4-under par with a score of 212 (72-71-69). Andrew Tan was tied for 42nd place after carding a 3-under-par 213 (72-68-73) and Cooper Claycomb rounded out the top five with a 4-over-par 220 (74-69-77).
 
The Cardinals return to action on March 7-9 at the John Hayt Invitational in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
