SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Washington will have work to do during Sunday’s final round at the Sahalee Players Championship, sitting 13th after Day One at Sahalee Country Club.
Washington got off to an up and down start in round one, mixing in plenty of birdies with shots above par. The Huskies finished the first round sixth on the leaderboard, seven shots above par.
Newcomers Abel Derksen and Jake Foley led the way for the Huskies in the opening round, each coming in at one shot over par, while Finn Koelle fired a two-over 74.
Drew Warford finished his first round three shots over par, with Brock Maulding rounding out the Husky lineup at four-over. Playing as an individual, Justin Hopkins carded an 81.
However, the Huskies struggled in the second round, dropping down the leaderboard to 13th after shooting 17 shots over par as a team.
Foley paced the Husky counters in the second round, coming in with a two-over 74, followed by Koelle with a 75. Maulding and Derksen shot five and seven-over, respectively, while Waford rounded things out with an 8-over 80.
Overall, Foley leads UW in a tie for 34th at three-over, with Koelle two-shots back, tied for 46th. Derksen’s eight-over is good for 62nd, followed by Maulding one shot back. Warford will begin Sunday’s final round tied for 67th, 11 shots over par, while Hopkins is 12-over in a tie for 69th.
The Huskies will tee off the third round Sunday from the 10th hole, beginning at 8:50 a.m. PT.
