Five Things to Know: Marquette Intercollegiate


SKOKIE, Ill. – Wisconsin men’s golf stays in-state to play the notable Milwaukee Country Club Golf Course at the Marquette Intercollegiate on Sunday, Oct. 2 and Monday, Oct. 3.

Here are five things you need to know before the team tees off on Sunday:

1. Last Time Out: Wisconsin finished eighth overall at the Windon Classic at Evanston Golf Course (Skokie, Ill.) and hosted by Northwestern. The Badgers shot 14-over par (289-286-279=854) overall and saw strong individual performances during the final round. Wisconsin’s golfers rallied in the third round of the Windon Classic on Tuesday. Climbing 30 spots in the individual standings to T13, Maxime Legros shot a 4-under par 66, including five birdies to lead the Badgers on the final day of competition. Teammate Clayton Tribus also finished in the top 20 at T18 with 2-over par 72 in his final round.

Wisconsin is currently receiving votes in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches Poll (Sept. 30).

2. The Course: The Milwaukee Country Club was established in 1894 and the current course layout was set in 1927. The course has hosted the 1903 Western Open, 1969 Walker Cup, 1988, 1988 U.S. Senior Amateur, 2008 U.S. Mid-Amateur and most recently the 2020 Wisconsin State Amateur.

3. The Tournament: The Marquette Intercollegiate returns to Milwaukee Country Club for the first time since 2016. The last four iterations of the event have been held at Erin Hills. Playing at a par 70 at 7,101 yards, the tournament will begin on Sunday with the first two rounds starting at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Tee times for the final round on Monday will be set after the completion of round two. Tee times for the final round will start at 8:00 a.m. with groups teeing off on Nos. 1 & 10. 4. The Field: Competing in the tournament are Auburn, Cal Poly, Charlotte, Howard, Iowa State, Marquette, Miami, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, Rutgers, South Florida, UC Davis and Wisconsin. After team qualifying competitions, the Badgers’ lineup is Maxime Legros, Coalter Smith, Clayton TribusCameron Huss and Daniel Aas. Max Schwarz is also competing as an individual.
