Hokies make return trip to Watersound Invitational

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech returns to Panama City Beach, Florida this weekend for the Watersound Invitational, co-hosted by Florida State and Alabama, at Shark’s Tooth Golf Course. The par 72, 7,246-yard layout hosted this tournament a year ago, in addition to the 2022 ACC Men’s Golf Championship.

The Hokies, who finished fourth at this event in 2022, will be tested in an elite field that features six teams ranked in Golfstat’s top 25. Headlining the event is No. 1 Vanderbilt. The Commodores are one of three SEC programs competing, along with No. 17 Alabama and No. 23 Mississippi State. Co-host Florida State is ranked No. 11, followed by No. 12 Georgia Tech and No. 16 Oklahoma State.

Tech will travel Kobe Valociek, Drew Brockwell, Cameron Moore, Mehrbaan Singh and David Stanford for its fifth tournament of the season. Valociek, a junior, paced the Hokies in their last event by carding a 3-under 213 to take fourth at the Battle at Briar’s Creek. Daniel Azallion, who is recovering from an injury, will compete as an individual.

Each round will feature tee times beginning at 9 a.m. (Sunday and Monday) and 7:30 a.m. (Tuesday). Tech is paired with Clemson and Notre Dame for Sunday’s opening round.

The Hokie Club and Virginia Tech Men’s Golf are challenging Hokie Nation to make a Pledge Per Birdie throughout the 2023 season. To make a pledge or to learn more about the campaign, please click here.
