HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. – Illinois women’s golf finished the first rounds of the Big Championships tied for 10th after carding a team total of 301 (+13).
A Big Ten All-Tournament Team honoree a year ago, Isabel Sy ends the day tied for fourth after a round of 2-under (70). Sy tallied four birdies on the front, including three-consecutive on No. 16, 17 and 18, and tallied six overall on the opening day of the championships, the second-most among the field. The San Gabriel, Calif., native also posted the lowest scoring on average on par 3s on the round at 2.00 (-4).
Lexanne Halama is tied for 16th after her round of 73 (+1). Halama went 1-over (37) on the front before an even-par (36) back, which included three birdies.
Yurang Li is tied for 60th after an opening round 78 (+8) and Anna Ritter ends the day tied for 71st after her round of 80 (+8).
Erica Lee is tied for 76th after a first round 82 (+10) and Sophia Sulkar is tied for 80th after a round of 84 (+12).
Michigan State holds the team lead at 9-under (279) and the Northwestern’s Lauryn Nguyen leads individually at 5-under (67).
The Fighting Illini will be back in action in tomorrow, with second round tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT.
