NC State's Season Ends at Stillwater Regional

STILLWATER, Okla. – NC State Women’s Golf wrapped up its 2021-2022 campaign on Wednesday, firing a tournament-low score of 301 (+13) and finishing the week in eighth place in the NCAA Stillwater Regional at Oklahoma State’s Karsten Creek Golf Club.

The day was highlighted by underclassmen Lauren Olivares Leon and Isabel Amezcua posting final-round scores of 74 (+2), with Amezcua finishing her round with three-straight birdies and improving by 12 shots from yesterday’s score. Olivares Leon was the Pack’s highest finisher of the tournament, ending the week in a tie for 24th place.

Natalie Armbruester shot her second-straight 76 (+4) on Wednesday, continuing what was a consistent effort throughout the week which landed her in a tie for 32nd place.

NC State’s scoring effort was rounded out by senior Lea Klimentova, who competed in her final round of competition for the Wolfpack on Wednesday. Klimentova shot a five-over 77, finishing in a tie for 35th, a career-best in NCAA Regional play.

Also competing for NC State was Inja Fric, whose six-over score of 78 completed the Wolfpack lineup.

Oklahoma State’s Maddison Hinson-Tolchard claimed the individual championship with a three-round score of 212 (-4), and Baylor was crowned team champion with a fourteen-shot victory over second-place Arizona State. Baylor and Arizona State will each represent the Stillwater Regional at the NCAA Championship, alongside Oklahoma State and Auburn who tied for third place on the team leaderboard.

With the completion of the Stillwater Regional, another successful season for the NC State women’s golf program ends with the Wolfpack being represented at regionals for the 19th time in 20 seasons, as well as ten-consecutive appearances. Season-long achievements for NC State included Olivares Leon finishing the year with the fourth-best scoring average in program history, as well as the best scoring average of any freshman in program history with an 18-hole clip of 73.19. Additionally, Inja Fric moved into the top-fifteen all-time on the scoring-average list with a mark of 74.19.

Losing just two seniors to graduation and returning a wealth of experience plus talent, head coach Page Marsh‘s squad looks to improve in 2022-2023, hopeful for another deep postseason run.
