Burgess claims first professional win at Chatmoss Classic

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Connor Burgess recorded the first professional win of his career Thursday afternoon at the Chatmoss Classic, as part of the GProTour. The three-day event was contested at Chatmoss Country Club in Martinsville, Virginia.

Burgess, a native of Lynchburg, Virginia, posted an 8-under 202 to win the event by two shots over Zach Edmondson of Morrisville, North Carolina. The 2022 Tech graduate got off to a hot start, firing rounds of 65 (-5) and 66 (-4) to open the tournament. Burgess carded three birdies over his final five holes in Thursday’s final round to preserve the win. He racked up $15,000 and 500 points by topping the leaderboard.

With Burgess’ win, former Tech golfers have won in back-to-back weeks on the GProTour. Mark Lawrence Jr. won the Greenville Open (Aug. 10-12) in Greenville, North Carolina.

The Tech duo will tee it up next at the Columbia Open, Aug. 30-Sept. 1, in Blythewood, South Carolina.
