Nobilio Tabbed to ANNIKA Award Preseason Watch List

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Redshirt sophomore Alessia Nobilio was named to the Preseason ANNIKA Award Watch List, it was announced Thursday morning.

Created in 2014, the ANNIKA Award is annually given to the top female U.S. collegiate golfer; the winner voted on by players, coaches and members of the college golf media. UCLA’s Alison Lee was the first to take home the award in 2014 and Bronte Law earned the honor the next season in 2015.

Nobilio competed in 11 events and 33 rounds, posting an average round score of 74.2 in her first collegiate season. She notched four top 5 finishes, including a T-3rd placing to lead UCLA at the Pac-12 Championships (+1, 217). Nobilio was also a runner-up at the Stanford Intercollegiate after shooting a 3-under 68 and 2-under 69 to open the tournament, ultimately finishing with an even-par 216. The Rozzano, Italy native was the Bruins’ top finisher in her first collegiate event at the Molly Collegiate Invitational (T-5th; +3, 219).

This summer, Nobilio won the English Women’s Amateur Championship at Beau Desert Golf Club on Aug. 21 in playoff fashion. Nobilio, who shot 74-68-74-71 for the tournament, birdied the 71st and 72nd holes to tie Denmark’s Christina Thouber at +7 to par to go to extra holes. Nobilio sealed the victory with a 20-foot birdie putt from down and across the slope on the third extra playoff hole on the par-4 1st. Nobilio claimed the silverware in front of her father, Alfonso Nobilio, who hadn’t seen her compete in two years.

Nobilio ended the 2021-22 season ranked No. 90 in GolfStat.com’s player rankings.

The UCLA women’s golf team opens its 2022-23 season on Sept. 12 at the Olympic Club Invitational in San Francisco, Calif.
