Avery, Kou Lead USC Women's Golf In Season-Opening 36-Hole Day

Sophomores Amari Avery (-1) and Xin (Cindy) Kou (E) paced the No. 12 USC Women’s Golf team’s season-opening 36-hole day at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at the University of New Mexico G.C. in Albuquerque, N.M. on Monday (Sept. 12).

USC, a three-time winner last year, combined for a two-round 6-over 582 (293-289) and is tied for sixth in the 17-team field. Ohio State leads the event at 10-under with Kent State at 4-under.

Avery, coming off a her All-American first-team season as a freshman, got off to a solid start and is tied for 13th at 1-under 143 (72-71), including a second round that saw a 2-under back 9.

Kou, who earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention honors last year, sits one stroke back of Avery, tied for 15th at par 144 (72-72).

Freshman Catherine Park made her debut with USC as a starter and is tied for 27th at 3-over 147 (74-73).

Junior Brianna Navarrosa is tied for 34th at 4-over 148 (75-73) while redshirt senior Malia Nam, in her first action in over a season, is tied for 63rd at 8-over 152 (78-74).

Junior Christine Wang, playing individually, is tied for 45th at 5-over 149 (77-72), her second round matching her best effort as a Trojan.

The tournament wraps Tuesday with a single round beginning with a shotgun start at 7:30 p.m.
