WSU ends the first round of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational tied for seventh


BOULDER, Colo. – Sophomore Peter Jung lead the Washington State men’s golf team as he finished the first round of play at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational 1-under; 69. The Honolulu, Hawai’i native posted his first under-par of the season to put him in a tie for 11th.

As a team, Washington State ended the first round of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational in a four-way tie for seventh place on the team leaderboard. The Cougars ended the opening round at 4-over; 284.

Junior Preston Bebich finished the first round in a tie for 33rd on the player leaderboard, as he shot 1-over; 71. Bebich collected four birdies during his first go-around the course at the Boulder Country Club. Three Cougars shot 2-over; 72; senior Pono Yanagi, junior Jaden Cantafio, and freshman Sam Renner completed round one tied for 46th.

The University of Wyoming sat in first place at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational after carding 9-under; 271 in the first round. Meanwhile, Wyoming’s Jaren Calkins lead the field after 18 holes of play, as he carded 5-under; 65.

The second round of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational was suspended due to inclement weather. Play will resume at 6:30 a.m. PT, Tuesday, Oct. 4.  The Cougars played through holes 9-10 before play was suspended for the day.
