Surratt Named SEC Golfer of the Week

Surratt Named SEC Golfer of the Week

Just one month into his collegiate career, Tennessee freshman men’s golfer Caleb Surratt was named SEC Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.

The conference honors were given retroactively for performances during the first month of the season.

Competing in the first tournament of his collegiate career at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate last month in Scottsdale, Arizona, Surratt shot a three-round total of 18-under and claimed the individual title.

The Indian Trail, North Carolina, native’s 18-under performance marked the best 54-hole score in relation to par in program history. Over the course of the weekend, Surratt made 22 birdies with just two bogeys and one double bogey.

Surratt shot 6-under during round one, 7-under during round two and 5-under in the final round.

Surratt is Tennessee’s first men’s golfer to win SEC Golfer of the Week since Bryce Lewis did so on April 8, 2021.

With the win, Surratt became the fifth Vol to win a tournament under the direction of head coach Brennan Webb. Surratt joined Lewis (2021 Country Club of Birmingham Invitational) and VFLs Spencer Cross (2022 Lewis Chitengwa Memorial), Tyler Johnson (2019 Intercollegiate at the Grove) and Hunter Wolcott (2019 Hayt Invitational) as Vol golfers to capture an individual title during Webb’s time as head coach.
