Alabama Enters The Ally Looking to Defend Last Year’s Title

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women’s golf team will play its second tournament in as many weeks when it tees off The Ally, which will be held on the par 72, 6,353-yard Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss. The 11-team event opens with 36 holes Monday and the third round concluding Tuesday morning.

A year ago, Alabama led wire-to-wire on its way to a 10-stroke victory after carding a 22-under par 842, which was large part due to Benedetta Moresco who claimed medalist honors. The junior collected 24 birdies across the 54 holes played and finished at 19-under par 197 (63-66-68). In doing so, she set a program record for 36-hole score (129) and best tournament total vs. par (-19), while she matched the school mark for lowest 18-hole score (63).

Moresco returns to defend her title while she, Sarah Edwards and Isabella van der Biest were all in the starting lineup for last year’s team championship.

The Lineup

  • The Tide’s lineup includes Kynadie Adams, Sarah Edwards, Benedetta Moresco, Isabella van der Biest and Taylor Kehoe
  • Moresco leads the Crimson Tide in both stroke average (72.11) and average vs. par (+0.11), with Adams (72.22, +0.22) and Edwards (72.44, +0.44)
  • Adams is the reigning SEC Freshman after leading the Tide with a fourth-place finish at the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah

    • The Nashville, Tenn., native finished with three consecutive rounds in the 60s on her way to an 11-under par 205 (68-66-68)
    • Her 20 birdies throughout the 54-hole tournament led all golfers in the field

  • Edwards also performed well in Alabama’s previous event, finishing with career-best numbers for finish (t7th), 36-hole total (133), 54-hole hole total (206) and tournament score vs. par (-10)

Tournament Preview

  • The teams will compete in a five-count-four, stroke-play format
  • The Tide will be paired with Ole Miss and tee off the first of two rounds Monday morning beginning at 7:45 a.m….
