AUGUSTA, Ga. — University of Michigan women’s golf junior Monet Chun on Wednesday (Feb. 1) was invited to participate in the 2023 Augusta National Women’s Amateur, March 29-April 1 at the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. If she advances, she will play a final round at the prestigious Augusta National.

The international field of women amateurs will compete in a 54-hole stroke play event. Starting with 36 holes at the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club, on Wednesday and Thursday (March 29-30), the field will be cut down to the top 30, who will advance to Augusta National.

The entire field will play an official practice round at Augusta on Friday, March 31, while the advancing 30 golfers will play the final round on Saturday, April 2.

Chun’s invitation marks the second straight year a Wolverine has played in one of the world’s top amateur events. Hailey Borja and Ashley Lau competed in 2022, closing as the top two of six Big Ten golfers in the field. Borja’s 147 qualifying total advanced her to the final round, where she shot a 74 (+2) to tie for 12th with a 221 total. Lau tallied a 153 in her two rounds and did not move forward.

For the first time, the first and second rounds will be broadcast live on Golf Channel (1:30-3:30 p.m.) from Champions Retreat Golf Club. NBC Sports will produce and broadcast three hours (Noon-3 p.m.) of live final-round coverage of the event at Augusta National.

Additionally, Golf Channel’s “Live From the Masters” will commence on Friday, April 1 at Augusta National to provide coverage of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals and the Masters Tournament.

The 2023 Augusta National Women’s Amateur Champion, as long as they retain their amateur status, receive an invitation to the next five Augusta National Women’s Amateurs, the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open, the 2023 Women’s Open, and any USGA, R&A and PGA of America amateur championships for which she is eligible for one year.

Tickets will be available in advance via an application process. No tickets will be available at the gates.
