PALM COAST, Fla. – The Penn State men’s golf team dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Michigan in the opening match of Big Ten Match Play at the Hammock Beach Ocean Course Friday morning.
 
Eighth-seeded Michigan defeated seventh-seeded Penn State 3-2 in the Friday morning match that was shortened to nine holes due to weather.
 
James Allen defeated Michigan’s Jude Kim 3&1 to put the match’s first point on the board for the Nittany Lions. Patrick Sheehan and Morgan Lofland both finished in a tie with their Wolverine opponents.  
 
Jake Griffin and Jimmy Meyers both fell 1-up on the final hole against their respective opponents, Michigan’s Hunter Thomson and Yuqi Liu.
 
Penn State will play two matches Saturday, beginning with a morning match against the loser of Friday afternoon’s Northwestern-Maryland match. Penn State will also play an afternoon match Saturday.  Live scoring will continue to be available on GolfStat.
