Wake Forest in Contention After First Round of Nexus Collegiate

New Providence, Bahamas – The Wake Forest women’s golf team sits in second place on the team leaderboard with two players inside the top 10 after the first day of play in the Bahamas at the Nexus Collegiate.

The Deacs led the field with 15 total birds and was second with 52 total pars on the day. Rachel Kuehn led the way in scoring on par fours, averaging a one-under on the eight par-four holes. Caroline Smith was the only player in the 63-player field to record an eagle in the first round. She did so on the par-four 14th, finishing the 309-yard hole in two strokes.

Junior Mimi Rhodes led the way for the Deacs in the first round, as she finished the day one stroke under par and in a four-way tie for the individual lead. A birdie and bogey on her first nine holes put her at even par after the turn. Two more birdie-bogey sets on her second nine kept her at even par for the round before she birdied her final hole of the day, the 415-yard, par-four 18th.

Rachel Kuehn finished her round not far behind Rhodes, entering the clubhouse at one over. After entering the turn two over from her first nine, she birdied three of her last five holes of the day to finish one over and inside the top 10. Just two strokes back on the leaderboard is Lauren Walsh, who finished her first round three over but recorded four birdies throughout the day, including back-to-back birdies on the 10th and 11th holes.

Emilia Migliaccio and Carolina Chacarra each finished five over and inside the top 25 on the leaderboard. Playing as individuals, Caroline Smith and Anne-Sterre den Dunnen also finished the day over par but inside the top 47 of the field. Only eight players in the 63-player field finished the first round even or under par.
