Cats Close Out Regular Season In Napa

NAPA, Calif. – The tandem of sophomore Carolina Melgrati and freshman Julia Misemer carded No. 15 Arizona Women’s Golf’s lowest scores on Tuesday as the Wildcats finished the Silverado Showdown in 13th place at 55-over par. The team’s round of 20-over on the final day was its second best performance of the week. Melgrati capped the tournament as Arizona’s top finisher in a tie for 31st at 11-over.

“This was a challenging week for us, and we did not play up to our potential as a team,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “We made progress and showed improvement in the middle round, but we were unable to sustain our improved play. There’s a lot for our entire lineup to learn from this week, and I know our young ladies are motivated and resilient. We will have a good two weeks of practice and preparation and be hungry for Pac-12 Championships up in Phoenix.”

The 17-team field combined to play a total of 51 rounds in Napa with only a single round played below par. Northwestern won the team title with a final score of 9-over par. UCLA’s Zoe Campos won the individual championship as one of only four players to break par, finishing at 5-under.

Arizona was able to turn in a good week on the longest holes, wrapping up the tournament in fifth place in par-5 scoring at 2-over par.

The Wildcats will return to action for the Pac-12 Championships at Papago Golf Club in Phoenix, which begins on Monday, April 17. It will be a quick return trip for the program who played the course just three weeks ago as part of the field of PING/ASU Invitational.
