Wildcats Move to Top of Leaderboard at Pac-12 Championships

PHOENIX, Ariz. – No. 22 Arizona Women’s Golf began their climb up the leaderboard in Tuesday’s second round of the Pac-12 Championships on the first hole with freshman Julia Misemer sinking a 10-foot putt for eagle. The Wildcats would go on to erase USC’s three-shot advantage behind 1-under rounds by the sophomore tandem of Carolina Melgrati and Lilas Pinthier. Arizona enters Wednesday’s final round in a tie for first place with the Trojans at 8-under par.

“I am incredibly proud of our team for playing great golf for a second consecutive day,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “Today was about sticking to our gameplan and hitting the right shot with every swing, and we were dedicated to that philosophy all day. We are right where we want to be and competing for a conference championship. Our message for tomorrow is to embrace the challenge and everything that comes with it.”

Melgrati carded Arizona’s lowest round for a second consecutive day. She sits in a tie for second place on the individual leaderboard with Catherine Park of USC at 5-under. With another 1-under round of 71 on Tuesday, Pinthier solidified her top-10 position at 2-under par and in a tie for seventh. Misemer is the third Wildcat to reside in the top 10 of the leaderboards after two rounds, joining Pinthier in seventh at 2-under.

Arizona remains tied for the tournament lead in par-5 scoring at 6-under par while holding steady in second in par-3 scoring.

The Wildcats will be paired with the Trojans for Wednesday’s final round of the conference championships. The two teams will begin their quests for a Pac-12 title at 9:10 a.m. (MST), beginning on the first hole of Papago Golf Club.
