No. 18 MSU, Logan In Top Five After Opening Round Of SEC Championship


ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Mississippi State men’s golf team ended the first round of the SEC Championship in a tie for fourth with Ole Miss. The Bulldogs shot 5-under for the day with a team round of 275.

MSU collected 22 combined birdies with three different Bulldogs carding scores in the 60s in the opening round of the tournament.

Hunter Logan led the way for State and is in a six-way tie for fifth entering the second round. He fired his 17th career round in the 60s with a 3-under 67, going bogey-free on the back nine with four birdies for the day.

Ford Clegg sits just one stroke back of Logan after shooting 2-under 68. The graduate carded two of his four birdies consecutively on holes No. 15 and No. 16. He sits in a 12-way tie for 11th. Garrett Endicott fired a 1-under 69 in his first career postseason round. He carded a bogey-free back nine with three birdies.

Austin Vukovits led all golfers with seven birdies in the first round. He carded a pair consecutively on holes No. 7 and No. 8 and three more on his last six holes, sitting in an 11-way tie for 39th. Ruan Pretorius carded back-to-back birdies on the 15th and 16th greens, ending the day in a tie for 53rd.
