Sheehan and Meyers Pace Nittany Lions on Opening Day of Kepler Intercollegiate


COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Penn State men’s golf team sits fourth through a round and a half at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate as the opening day of action concluded Friday at Ohio State’s Scarlet Course.
 
The tournament format was adjusted to adapt to threats of inclement weather throughout the weekend. All teams completed the first round and began the second round Friday, with the Nittany Lions making it through the first nine holes of the second round. Play is scheduled to resume at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning, with the plan of completing the second round and starting the final round an hour later.
 
The Nittany Lions shot a 10-over, 294, in the opening round, good for a tie for fifth place through the first 18 holes. Penn State is currently +5 through the front half of the second round, and in fourth place in the 16-team field. Host and 25th-ranked Ohio State leads the team field.
 
Senior Patrick Sheehan led the Nittany Lions in the opening round, carding a 1-under, 70. He is currently four-over through the first nine holes of the second round and tied for 18th place.
 
Senior Jimmy Meyers carded a 3-over, 74, in the first round and is even through 10 holes of the second round, also sitting tied for 18th place.
 
Junior James Allen shot a 3-over, 74, in the morning and is two-over through the first nine holes of the second round. He is tied for 31st.
 
Sophomore Jake Griffin is tied for 55th. He shot a 7-over, 78, in the first round and is even through the first nine holes of the second round.
 
Freshman Billy Pabst Jr. carded a 5-over, 76, in the opening 18 and is 3-over through 10 holes of the second round. He is tied for 59th.
 
Freshman Jack Zubkus is tied for 74th while playing as an individual. He shot a 6-over, 77, in the morning and is four-over through seven holes of the second round.  
 
The Kepler Intercollegiate continues Saturday and live scoring will continue to be available on GolfStat.
