Record Day Puts Pack in Front of Raleigh Regional Field After First Round


RALEIGH — NC State women’s golf took advantage of the familiar territory of Lonnie Poole Golf Course as it kicked off NCAA Tournament regional action with a team score of 282 (-6) through Monday’s first round.

The team score, highlighted by under-par performances by Lauren Olivares Leon and Isabel Amezcua, was the second-lowest postseason round in Wolfpack program history. Olivares Leon set the postseason low round record with her 67 (-5) beating out the team’s previous NCAA Tournament best of 68 (-4).

The Wolfpack sophomore leads the field individually. Amezcua joined Olivares Leon with a bogey-free front nine and finished the day with a score of 69 (-3) that is tied for third placing following round one.

Natalie Armbruester birdied three holes on the back nine to post an even-par 72 and also ranks in the top 20 individually. NC State rookie Vania Simont made her postseason debut with a 74 (+2), and Caitlin Whitehead (81, +9) rounded out the Pack’s lineup.

NC State will tee off for its second round of regional action on Tuesday, May 9. The team will go off #1 With tee times every minutes beginning at 9:06 a.m. Live stats throughout the tournament will continue to be available on Golfstat.com. Going into the second round, the Pack is eight shots ahead of the current cut line for advancing to the final NCAA Championships site.
