For the second year in a row and third time under head coach Brennan Webb, two Tennessee men’s golfers have earned All-SEC honors, the conference announced Thursday.
Caleb Surratt was named SEC Freshman of the Year while also receiving First Team All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman Team honors, while redshirt junior Bryce Lewis was a second-team All-SEC selection.
Surratt is just the fourth Vol in program history to be named SEC Freshman of the Year and first since David Skinns in 2002. The Indian Trail, North Carolina, native is also just the sixth golfer in program history to receive SEC All-Freshman team honors and the first since Oliver Goss in 2013.
During his first season on Rocky Top, Surratt has been steady force in Tennessee’s lineup. The true freshman holds a team-best 69.33 scoring average and has shot a program-record-tying 25 rounds of par or better this season.
In total this season, Surratt has six top-10 finishes and two individual titles—including his individual title at the SEC Championship where he posted a 14-under 196, which tied for the second-lowest 54-hole score in SEC Championship history.
Receiving Second Team All-SEC honors for the second consecutive season, Lewis is the 15th golfer in program history to be a two-time All-SEC selection.
Lewis placed inside the top-25 six times this season, including a second-place finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship last month and an individual title at the Purdue Fall Invitational in October. The Hendersonville native has carded 14 rounds in the 60s and has a 70.20 scoring average.
In addition to Surratt and Lewis’ honors, redshirt junior Jake Hall was named to the SEC Community Service Team. The Knoxville native has racked up nearly 40 community service honors during his time as a Vol and served as a member of the VOLeaders Class of 2022 and was part of the group’s service trip to Rwanda last summer.
Surratt, Lewis and the Vols begin NCAA Regional competition on Monday in Auburn, Alabama, at Auburn University Club. Tennessee will play an 18-hole round each day from Monday through Wednesday.
The top five teams from each of the six NCAA regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships, which are set to be contested from May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
