Alabama’s Canon Claycomb, Nick Dunlap Named PING All-Americans


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Two Alabama men’s golfers were selected to the 2023 PING All-American team, which was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America Tuesday morning. Nick Dunlap was tabbed by the organization to the second team while Canon Claycomb garnered third team recognition.

It marks the first time since 2018 that Crimson Tide golfers earned All-American honors, when then-teammates Lee Hodges and Davis Riley were tabbed to the third team.

Nick Dunlap, Second Team All-America

  • Ping All-Region First Team
  • Concluded his freshman season ranked as the No. 16 in the nation, according to Golfweek individual player rankings
  • Named a First Team All-SEC performer as we as an all-freshman team honoree
  • Finished tied for 11th overall at the 2023 NCAA Championships after carding a 72-hole total of 280 (74-68-66-72)
  • Led Alabama in average strokes per round at 70.35, which ranks as the second lowest per-round single-season average in program history
  • Additionally, his -0.95 average vs. par set a program record while his led UA with 17 rounds in the 60s (17)
  • Earned first medalist honors of career at the Linger Longer Invitational with a 10-under 206 (70-66-70) and led Alabama to its second team title of the season
  • Named SEC Freshman of the Week twice this season (February 22, 2023 and March 22, 2023)
  • Had 10 top-20 finishes across 12 tournaments this year

Canon Claycomb, Third Team All-America

  • Ping All-Region First Team
  • Finished the year ranked No. 29 in the nation, according to Golfweek individual player rankings heading
  • Named a Second Team All-SEC performer
  • Collected 10 top-25 finishes in the Tide’s 12 tournaments played this season, including a 22nd-place result at the 2023 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships
  • Led the team with 27 rounds (out of 37 total rounds played) of par or lower
  • Carded the second-best average strokes per round (70.65), average vs. par (-0.57) and number of rounds in 60s (15)
  • Ranks among the single-season program leaders in scoring average (No. 6) and average vs. par (No. 5)
  • Started the season off by earning second medalist honors of career at the Rod Myers Invitational
